To remain in good standing as a volunteer and to participate in our volunteer monthly giveaways and recognition event every April, volunteer requirements must be completed once a year. You’ll receive a reminder one month before renewal date.
Required for All Volunteers:
9 min – Trauma-Informed Care video
20 min – Civil Rights video
16 min – Food Safety video (please watch this if you don’t have a food handlers card)
3 min – Anti-Discrimination Policy
3 min – Code of Conduct Policy

10-30 min – Food Handlers Card (only required for Head Chefs and Front-of-House Leads every 3 years. Email card to Diane Longaker, Executive Director)
3 min – Front-of-House Guidelines (for any front-of-house position)
3 min – Kitchen Safety Policy (for any kitchen or back-of-house position)
-
What if I need help at breakfast service? There will always be at least one SMB staff or board member present. You can also talk with Front-of-House or Back-of-House volunteers.
What if I need to cancel after signing up? Volunteers can cancel or update their sign-up information themselves. Please cancel if you cannot join us so the role can be filled prior to Saturday.
How old do I need to be to volunteer? All volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers under 16 years old need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and 16- and 17-year-olds can volunteer on their own with parental permission by having a parent or guardian sign the Liability Waiver located in the volunteer requirements below.
Is there a deadline to volunteer each week? Yes, please sign up to volunteer by 9AM Thursday before the Saturday you’d like to serve. If it’s after Thursday at 9AM, please contact Diane (Executive Director) at 971-261-0948.

We love welcoming volunteer groups from local schools, organizations, and Saturday Sponsors to help feed our community. To ensure a safe, accountable, and positive experience for everyone, all group volunteers are required to complete the same volunteer requirements and instructions as individual volunteers.
Important Info for Volunteer Groups:
We accept groups of 6-8 volunteers per breakfast service.
Each volunteer is REQUIRED to sign up individually, even when volunteering as part of a group. We need to be able to see volunteer names prior to service to track attendance, prepare roles, and ensure compliance.
If group volunteers cannot sign themselves up, the group leader can submit a roster by the Monday before they volunteer with names and positions.
How It Works
Each group member signs themselves up for their shift individually using the link below.
All required training listed above must be completed prior to the shift.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, welcoming, and well-organized Saturday morning for our community!

Volunteer Recognition Program
At Saturday Morning Breakfast, our volunteers embody the spirit of compassion and community that keeps our mission thriving. To celebrate and honor their dedication, we’ve launched our Volunteer Recognition Program*, a new way to say thank you to the people who make our work possible. This program helps us recognize and reward volunteer contributions, encourage ongoing participation, and strengthen the sense of belonging that makes Saturday Morning Breakfast special. Thank you for making a difference, one breakfast at a time.
*To be eligible for participation in the Volunteer Recognition Program, all trainings and forms must be completed to remain in good standing.
Monthly Giveaways
Volunteer. Serve. Win!
Each shift you serve earns an entry into our Monthly Drawing with a $25 gift card up for grabs! Drawings are held monthly. To qualify, you must volunteer during that same month.
The more you volunteer, the more chances you have to win, and to keep our community tables full of warmth and care!
Annual Volunteer Celebration
Let’s Celebrate You!
Starting April 2026, we gathered to honor the people who make Saturday Morning Breakfast in Mac possible. Expect surprises, certificates, service pins, and custom aprons just for you. When you give to others, you deserve to be celebrated too!

“I have been amazed at how much I enjoy volunteering at the Saturday Morning Breakfast. I’m getting to know the community of people I serve with and am very impressed with how well-run the whole program is. There are many long-timers who are very dedicated to their task and happy to share that experience with new volunteers. I leave in such a good place emotionally due to all the interactions I’ve had. As I see people around town whom we serve on Saturday mornings, they are no longer name-less faces, but friends I’m getting to know and enjoy interacting with. I think anybody who comes to volunteer will be shocked at how much they receive from the experience.”

“Volunteering at the Saturday Morning Breakfast has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. The gratitude expressed by the individuals we serve is deeply moving, and witnessing their smiles reminds me how powerful something as simple as a warm meal can be. Knowing that, even for a moment, their day is a little brighter because of this program is truly an honor. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support our community in such a personal and impactful way.”

"Thanks for the opportunity to serve our neighbors a great meal. We were pleased to see how well-run the operation was: from the food to the warm clothing to the pet food and supplies, like toothbrushes and toothpaste, it was an impressive effort. We hope to participate again next year!"

"My husband, Pat, and I enjoyed the experience, volunteering for Saturday Morning Breakfast. It was a lot better now that they have indoor dining. I felt it was smoother than when we came last year. Diane was a big help when we first arrived. We loved working with Madge, plating on the line. She made sure we knew what was happening and how much to plate. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful. Thank you for all you do!"

Why Volunteer?
Volunteering is important because it nourishes communities, feeds personal growth, and provides essential meals for neighbors in need. It brings people to the same table, builds kitchen and teamwork skills, and supports overall well-being. Through volunteering, individuals can make a real difference by helping serve hearty food while also experiencing fulfillment and a sense of purpose.
